Terms of use

These terms cover the BabelTrans iPhone app and its related static website, provided by the BabelTrans developer identified on the App Store product page (“we,” “us”). Contact [email protected].

Read these terms and our privacy policy before use. If you do not agree, stop using the service. Any separate notices, authorizations or consent required by applicable law remain required.

Subject to these terms, applicable law and relevant Apple terms, you receive a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the app on compatible devices you own or control. The current app supports iPhone with iOS 17.6 or later. Intellectual property in the app and third-party materials remains with the respective owners.

You must meet legal eligibility requirements. Minors should use the app with legally required guardian guidance and authorization. Do not redistribute, resell, bypass safeguards or improperly reverse-engineer the app except as permitted by law or the rights holder.

• Text translation: Sends your text to Baidu to obtain a translation.
• Voice and conversation: Uses Apple speech recognition, then sends recognized text to Baidu. Playback uses system speech synthesis.
• Photo translation: Uploads the image you confirm to Baidu for a translated image, which you can choose to save or share.
• Phrase practice: Provides 24 built-in Chinese–English phrases across 8 scenarios with example text matching; it does not offer open-ended AI chat, grammar scoring or pronunciation scoring.
• Local history: Keeps up to 500 recent successful text translations. There is currently no cloud history sync, individual-delete or clear-all control.

Text, voice translation and photo translation require internet; built-in phrase practice works offline. Language coverage, system speech support and service availability may vary with region, device, network and provider status. Features available in the installed version govern actual use.

You retain your lawful rights in the content you provide. These terms do not transfer ownership of your text, photos or speech to us. Ensure you have the right to submit, process and share content and obtain others’ consent where required.

You authorize the app to process content for the features you initiate and pass necessary content to the relevant providers to fulfill requests. Provider handling is also subject to its applicable rules; see our privacy policy.

• Do not use the service unlawfully or infringe privacy, intellectual property or others’ rights.
• Do not upload other people’s private, confidential or sensitive material without authorization.
• Do not abuse APIs, evade limits, disrupt security or transmit malicious content.

Machine translation, speech recognition and image recognition may contain errors, omissions or context mistakes. Image quality, background noise, accent, language coverage and provider models can affect results.

Camera, Photos, microphone and speech recognition features need corresponding system permissions, managed in iOS Settings. See the privacy policy for online data flows, retention and rights.

You decide whether to save translated images or quote cards to Photos or share them through iOS. Recipients can further process copies, so review content before sharing.

Local history is limited, and practice progress is not guaranteed across app runs. App deletion, device failure or system operations can cause local loss; Offload App and system backups may preserve some data. Use available saving features for content you need to keep.

Baidu translation, Apple system services, mail providers and sharing recipients handle relevant requests under their own terms. We do not control all third-party handling or availability and cannot guarantee uninterrupted service.

Connectivity, API limits, language support, provider changes or maintenance may cause delays, errors or unavailable features. Follow app guidance to retry or return later, avoiding unnecessary repeated submission of sensitive content.

The current version has no in-app purchases, subscriptions or advertising. Any app download price is as shown on the App Store. Online features may incur data charges from your network or communications provider.

If paid features are introduced, prices and conditions will be shown before purchase in accordance with applicable platform and legal requirements. These terms do not authorize future charges in advance.

We may update, limit or discontinue features for product, security, legal or provider changes and communicate significant changes appropriately. Additional notice or consent will be handled where law requires it.

You may stop using and delete the app at any time. Abuse or unlawful activity may lead to reasonably necessary restrictions. This does not limit your statutory remedies or waive legally required obligations.

We use reasonable care to provide and maintain the service but do not guarantee every recognition or translation is accurate or complete, or that providers are always available. Verify results for your context and take appropriate responsibility for uses and sharing you choose.

Responsibility is determined by applicable law and each party’s fault. These terms do not exclude or limit non-excludable liability, restrict statutory consumer rights or waive liability for intentional wrongdoing, gross negligence or other legally non-waivable circumstances.

We may update these terms for feature or legal changes and revise the page date. Significant changes will be communicated appropriately, with separate confirmation where law requires it. Nothing in these terms limits your statutory rights.

If a dispute arises, contact us first at the email below. Applicable law and competent dispute-resolution channels govern; these terms do not require you to give up statutory jurisdiction or complaint rights.
